A Taste of Bali’s Landscape to Slow into the New Year
As the New Year begins, Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel, Bali, invites guests to welcome 2026 with intention, balance and shared ritual through SEGARA-GUNUNG, a one-night-only Balinese family-style ocean to mountain dining experience taking place on Friday, 2 January 2026.
Rooted in Bali’s philosophy of harmony between land, sea and community, SEGARA-GUNUNG offers a meaningful way to mark the first days of the year by gathering around the table to reflect, reconnect and begin anew. Meaning Ocean to Mountain, this dining experience is inspired by Jimbaran’s coastal heritage (segara) and the fertile highlands of Plaga and Tabanan (gunung). The evening brings together ocean-fresh seafood and mountain-grown produce in a communal gibungan dining format, traditionally reserved for family gatherings and ceremonies.
The menu unfolds as a journey across Bali’s landscapes, beginning with traditional keripik and sambal, followed by coastal favourites such as lightly smoked tuna with sambal matah and comforting jukut bayem be pasih. At the heart of the experience, guests share a generous spread of Jimbaran-style grilled king prawns, mahi-mahi in yellow spices and coconut milk, sate lilit, and banana-leaf grilled chicken, accompanied by nasi jagung and fresh lawar gedang. The evening concludes with nostalgic Balinese sweets including godoh nangka and jaje klepon, finished with a refreshing strawberry sorbet inspired by Bali’s cooler growing regions.
A live Legong dance performance weaves cultural storytelling into the night, reinforcing the connection between cuisine, ritual and renewal, making SEGARA-GUNUNG a fitting way to begin the year grounded in tradition and togetherness.
