Bali, 02nd August 2017 -- Ji Restaurants Bali, members of Tugu Hotels and Restaurants is excited to announce the collaboration between its Japanese & Asian-trained chefs team and Chef Colin Buchan during the creation of the menu.

Originally from Scotland but have lived in London for 10 years from 2002 to 2012, Buchan brings many years of international experience to his role, having worked with some of the most highly reputable hotels and restaurants such as Pollen in Singapore as the Executive Chef, the sister restaurant to Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social in London, several Michelin-starred establishments including Marco Pierre White’s L’Escargot, Andrew Fairlie’s One Devonshire Gardens and The Square restaurant in London, spent more than a decade in Gordon Ramsay restaurants, starting with Amaryllis in his hometown of Glasgow, and worked as a private chef to David and Victoria Beckham. 

The highlight of his career was cooking for the 2012 season of the BBC series The Great British menu alongside some of the best chef in the UK. During his many years of his culinary experience, he has committed to showcase his culinary expertise.

Buchan had fun experimenting with creating dishes for Ji Restaurants Bali that are contemporary & playful, with a focus on the exploration of exotic flavors from Japan as well as various Asian cuisines such as; Indonesian, Indian, Thai as well as other Southeast Asian. Using only the freshest local produce, the aim is to create an interesting fusion of flavors that are at the same time comforting, authentic and heartwarming.

Ji Restaurants Bali is the ultimate spot located in the heart of Canggu, Bali to chill out by the sea and have an outstanding drink and dine experience where ancient 300 years old temple meets red skies over the Indian ocean, divided into 2 different venues; Ji at Bale Sutra 1706 on the 1st floor is the only restaurant that is housed in an original ancient Kang XI period temple from 1706 and Ji Terrace by THE SEA on the 2nd and 3rd floor with 180 degrees undisturbed views over the sparkling Indian Ocean and Canggu Beach. Ji Terrace by THE SEA BALI 

Ji Terrace by THE SEA is a beautiful dining venue and sunset bar located at the end of Pantai Batu Bolong Street in Canggu, Bali, facing the sea. Conceived by Tugu Group that was launched in summer 2017, it serves the variety of best Japanese in the island that is already famous through its sister venue downstairs, Ji at Bale Sutra 1706, and the new addition of contemporary Asian dishes that have been created in collaboration with Chef Colin Buchan. 

Following the trademark of Tugu Hotels & Restaurants, the interior design is filled with beautiful artworks, inspired by the mixture of exotic ancient world of Japan, Indonesia, India, Thailand & South East Asian Countries with a strong touch of the bohemian spirit of Bali. With 180 degrees undisturbed views over the sparkling Indian Ocean and Canggu Beach, Ji Terrace by THE SEA celebrates the exotic beauty of the sensuous, mysterious Asia. It is a fusion of ancient and contemporary Asian cultures, with rich, deep colors inspired by the crimson sky and red sunsets that we see everyday from this terrace.

Ji at Bale Sutra 1706 Ji at Bale Sutra 1706 is a majestic blend between the old Chinese and the old Balinese cultures, this ornate and elegant dark wood temple features beautiful carvings and details of mythological animals all over the roofs and ceilings. It was originally a family temple that had been used for generations, before it was saved and found by the founder/designer of Tugu Hotels & Restaurants, the antique collector Anhar Setjadibrata. 

The beautiful temple is now housed in a red room that features a delicate 18th century Goddess of Mercy, as well as numerous artifacts, heritage of the grandiose lives of barons and Balinese sovereigns from past centuries. Coloring the red walls are black and white full-sized portraits of Balinese monarch rulers as well as original Chinese paintings from Qing dynasty.

The cuisine at JI is inspired by centuries old cooking tradition from Japan, as well as other East Asian countries, with focus on classical art of grilling (robata) as well as the finer arts of sushi in bringing beautifully delicate flavors of Asia to guests’ tables.
